Are Baby Boomers Really a Threat to Workplace Stability?

Posted in Management @ Jul 11th 2011 8:48pm - By Judy Gillespie introducing article from 'The Leading Edge' newsletter May/June 2011

Gen Y have recently been the generational group that has copped all the blame for problems in the workplace.  Complaints I've heard have included: they're lazy; they want to be paid too much; they don't want to work with the team, amongst others.  However according to the 'Leadership Management Australasia' May/June Newsletter - we may have got it wrong.  Their recent survey has cast a shadow over the relationship Baby Boomers have with other generations.  It appears that not only are the other generations not so keen on being managed by a Baby Boomers - neither are the Baby Boomers!

The challenge now appears to be for managers to be able to better understand what drives effective and ineffective generational relationships and how they can be improved.  The other challenge is for Baby Boomers to review their own styles so that those in their own generation as well as the other generations are comfortable working with them & following them.

So what do you think?  A statistical anomaly or are baby Boomers the real problem in the workplace?
