Like to know how your veterinary practice measures up to others?

Posted in Guest Blogger @ Jul 16th 2015 - By Cath Colton, Business Manager, VetShare

Would you like to know exactly where your business sits compared to others? Even better - would you also like the opportunity to find out how you can improve?

VetShare is one of the sponsors of the AVBA's WellMap program and Cath Colton explains below why she believes it's such a worthwhile program for practice owners to take part in.

What’s WellMap all about?

WellMap is a program made available by the Australian Veterinary Business Association (AVBA) that gives participants a clear picture of where their business currently sits in comparison to other, similar practices.  It shows business owners where their practice sits: locally; in their demographic; state; and within Australia. The inclusion of the Staff Engagement Survey also allows owners to see just how engaged their staff members are with the practice, how they rate the practice owners and the practice as a whole.

The WellMap program requires the practice owner to take part in the following MPV veterinary benchmarking surveys:

  • Staff Engagement Survey
  • MPV Profit and Loss Survey
  • MPV Fees Survey

The final piece to the program is the WellMap 2 Day Workshop in August where practice owners have the opportunity to interact with other business owners and to learn from facilitators exactly what strategies are required to make their practices truly successful.

Why is VetShare involved with WellMap?

VetShare is a WellMap Sponsor because we believe that all veterinary businesses have an ‘idea’ of where their business is sitting within the industry, but often don’t have the real facts or the advantage of the WellMap workshop to discuss these real facts.

Why do we believe Practice Owners should join the WellMap program?

By joining the WellMap program you receive the benefit of completing the MPV surveys - which we all know and trust within the Australian veterinary industry.  The MPV surveys give you real data relating to Australian statistics and benchmark your practice with similar mixed or small animal, rural or city practices.  The Staff Engagement survey, which is only available to WellMap participants, will really let you know if your staff are engaged in your business or only there for their benefits.

We believe this information is so important to business success that the VetShare team also complete the Staff Engagement Survey as it allows our team to give their opinions on how to help VetShare continue to grow.

What do I like most about the WellMap Workshop?

I always enjoy attending the WellMap Workshop as it gives participants the chance to discuss all areas of their MPV and Staff Engagement Surveys.  Every attendee has completed the same surveys so it allows everyone present to share so much information and importantly to learn what makes a veterinary business truly successful.

WellMap can give you…..

Taking part in the 2015 WellMap program will give you the  chance to get the real facts about your business; it will give you the  chance to discuss fees, visit numbers including  surgery/dental numbers as well as learning how engaged your staff are to you and your business.  I can guarantee you will appreciate the information you will gain from the WellMap Workshop and really enjoy your time with like-minded veterinary managers and owners.

"WellMap provides a really valuable snapshot of the health of your practice.
Staff engagement, income and expenses and pricing are key issues for business success.
And don't assume you know how engaged your staff are, the results may surprise you.
I would recommend it for all practices!"
