Veterinary Practice Web Sites with Wow - One step at a Time

As I mentioned back in June I’ve spent quite a bit of time over the last few weeks looking at websites for veterinary practices – or not looking at them as the case may be!

Firstly, I was amazed/concerned at how many practices didn’t have a website, so congratulations to those that do have a presence on the web.  Secondly, many of the web sites I did find ..well.. as I may have fairly bluntly put it a few weeks ago, lots of them...well... they weren’t great.  Actually – they sucked.

So my question is why?

When one of the biggest issues within the industry is profitability (or lack thereof) and the concern that clients often perceive their visits to the vet are too expensive, shouldn’t a great website be an important part of the services offered to clients?  Shouldn’t your website also be the best advertisement out there to tempt new clients to your practice?

So I can’t help but go back to my original question – why?

Why are there so few great veterinary practice websites and why do some many practices not even have a website?

Is it because practice owners don’t see the need for one?

Is it because owners don’t want to spend the money necessary to develop an awesome website?

Or is it because practice owners don’t know where to start to build a great website and they don’t have the time to find out?

I’m going to go with the last one – am I right?

If this is the case then one blog is not going to be enough, so I’ve put together a list of topics I thought might help:

  1. What do your clients & potential clients want from your website?
  2. DIY or call in the experts?
  3. Use of images & branding
  4. Making the Most of Your Home Page
  5. Meet the Team (or.. Showing off Your BEST Assets)
  6. Images & a tour of your practice (or.. Show us what else you’ve got)
  7. What Else Could You Add? (Other pages you could consider)
  8. The Bountiful Benefits of Blogs
  9. Talking with Web designers – what language do they really speak?

I’m aiming to get some real experts to help me with some of these blog topics so let me know if I've missed anything, or if there's anything else you need to know to build an amazing website.

Well I’ve told you what I think, now it’s your turn.  Why do you think so many veterinary practices either don’t have a website or have websites that don’t exactly have the ‘wow’ factor?
