About the ACVA

The ACVA is a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation that has been established to promote veterinary acupuncture education and research within Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

The mission of the College is to provide basic, advanced and continuing education for veterinarians in the clinical application of acupuncture using scientific and traditional acupuncture theories, related therapies and to promote veterinary acupuncture research.

Research into veterinary acupuncture is currently very limited and in addition to teaching acupuncture, the ACVA Foundation aims to raise money to fund research into veterinary acupuncture. The ACVA Foundation aims to establish research projects within a number of Australian universities over the coming years.

The ACVA Course - Next Course Commences 2020

The basic Australian IVAS Veterinary Acupuncture Course has been offered to qualified veterinarians every two to three years since 1991.

This course is for qualified veterinarians with at least 2 years of clinical experience, who would like to expand their professional knowledge and integrate acupuncture into their daily practice. Clinical evidence shows that acupuncture can be used alone or in conjunction with mainstream medicine to treat a wide variety of clinical conditions.

Continuing Education Opportunities

The ACVA also offers continuing education programs for veterinarians to build on the knowledge gained from the IVAS Certification Course.  These programs also provide the important CE requirements of 10 CE points every two years to maintain IVAS Certification.

For veterinarians who have previously completed their IVAS Certification, there is the opportunity to refresh and update your knowledge by taking part in the weekly online lectures of the current Course. Previous IVAS graduates can review the online lectures at a special rate, which is a wonderful way to update your current acupuncture knowledge.
