Orthotist/prosthetists are experts at prescription, application and consultations regarding orthotic (bracing) and prosthetic (false limb) management for any animal. A Prosthetist/Orthotist also manufactures, fits and adjusts the custom-made item.
Animal Tech provides the entire service of obtaining a custom-made device. We will provide consultation, assessment, and prescription based on clinical justification and biomechanical principles, casting (impression of the limb), manufacture/fabrication of the device and the fitting and adjustments of the device. This provides a streamlined process to avoid any issues in casting errors, manufacturing errors or fitting complications, allowing the trained expert to take care of the process for you.

Animal Tech’s main difference from the American Prosthetic and Orthotic companies is being able to provide the entire service from consultation and casting to the fitting of a custom device. Animal Tech can make life easier for the Veterinary professional and pet owners by providing a complete Prosthetic and Orthotic service. Animal Tech is a referral-based clinic able to provide consultations to pet owners based on Veterinary referrals. From there Animal Tech’s Orthotist/Prosthetist will provide a complete service of prescription of an orthosis/prosthesis based on the referral, casting, manufacture and fitting of the device. Alternatively, Animal Tech can provide mobile or veterinary practice-based appointments for complex issues, pre/post-surgery, and aggressive animals. This approach allows for collaborative work with the Orthotist/Prosthetist and the Veterinarian to get the best prosthetic/orthotic outcome for the animal.
Animal Tech’s orthoses are custom-made and designed for each case they can be applied to numerous conditions and scenarios.
Orthoses are being used for pre and post-surgery as rehabilitation devices to assist recovery, protection, stabilisation, wound protection and fracture stabilisation. They provide an alternative option when surgery is not applicable to provide stability and externally immobilising joints. They can also be used to accommodate limb deformities by stabilising the joints, preventing further progression of the deformity and improving weight bearing.
Commonly braced areas include the Carpal joint, Stifle joint, and Hock and Tarsal joints.
Prostheses are a great alternative to mobilising on 3 limbs as they improve weight distribution and protect the sound limb.
