Nothing!
But that’s my superpower. In fact, that’s exactly why we started The Vet Vault: so much to know, with so many incredible teachers and mentors, but so little time. We talk to them, learn from them, and share what we’re learning with you.
Our guests, on the other hand… they’re absolute experts in their field. Whether it’s clinical content, psychology, wellness, business, or whatever aspect of veterinary science we’re tackling. (Oh, and I’m being modest when I say I’m an expert at nothing – I’m getting pretty bloody good at making podcasts about the stuff I’m learning!)”
My favourite (and most common) feedback on the podcasts is, “I can’t believe that you’re comfortable asking such dumb questions! It’s exactly the question I’ve always had, but I’ve just been too embarrassed to ask it.”
I think that’s what makes The Vet Vault different. It goes back to the first question: I’m a generalist in a sea of experts, and you get to watch (listen to!?) me paddle on my raft of ignorance. Well, maybe ignorance is too harsh – I know enough to know what I don’t know, and I still remember what I didn’t know 5, 10, or 20 years ago.
We have conversations, not lectures.
We do tips, updates, stuff-ups, personal insights, not textbook theory.
We do audio, so you don’t have to spend more time staring at a screen. And we keep it short enough to listen to on your drive to work but with enough content to ensure that you’ll be a little bit better at your job than you were before you listened. (Well, not the non-clinical episodes – they go for as long as they need to go, and I’ve never been accused of brevity when it comes to a good conversation!)
We can make your life easier by helping you fall (back?) in love with veterinary science. You do important, valuable work, and a career in veterinary science can be fulfilling and meaningful, but there’s no doubt that you’ve chosen a challenging career for yourself. Sometimes it will suck. But it sucks less when we feel inspired, when we’re confident when we know our s$%#. We can endure the suck when we have purpose – when we understand our way, and when we love what we do.
That’s our aim with everything we do at The Vet Vault.
(And like a cranky cat, if you put enough heart into veterinary science, it might even start to love you back, even though it probably won’t show it!)
