A new veterinary clinic has opened in the inner-Brisbane suburb of Paddington, and it looks a little bit different to most vet practices in the area.
It’s a neighbourhood local vet that specialises in vaccinations, pet grooming and vet care for cats and dogs – but it looks like a boutique store.
Elite Fitout Solutions delivered the fit-out and layout design, with the branding and interior finishes completed by Superhero Company.
The PetKind Veterinary Wellness Boutique concept was created by owner and veterinarian Remona Horn. Remona is a native of South Africa who has now made her home in Paddington, Queensland. She found that there was no vet in Paddington and quickly began planning to open her own clinic to remedy that situation.
The premise of the boutique clinic is to provide the best standard of veterinary service possible. If PetKind cannot assist with a specific ailment, they refer the patient to a specialist who can help, so a solution can be found.
The Elite team worked closely with Remona to create her boutique vet business, designing the space to include two consult rooms, a sterilisation area, treatment, surgery, grooming, pharmacy/lab and a laundry. The striking reception and waiting area also feature a retail section for clients to purchase a variety of pet accessories.
During the fit-out design stage, the Elite team needed to overcome some challenges due to the small size of the tenancy, a large shop front and plumbing issues.
Elite resolved the issues with the use of some imaginative wall configurations and drainage redirection. They were also able to fully utilise the extensive shopfront to bring abundant natural light into the reception/waiting area.
PetKind owner Remona knew exactly what she wanted to achieve with her vet boutique concept, and worked collaboratively with Superhero Company to create the branding to fit that vision. The logo is one unbreakable line depicting a dog and a cat – their key patient base.
The logo has been placed on a moss-green background with gold lettering, with an industrial black to anchor the signage.
The naming of the business is based on the assertion that they are always kind to pets.
The colours and finishes work together to create a calm, stress-free environment for animals and their owners. The entrance space is welcoming and calming. The overall look of the clinic is more like a high-end retail store rather than a vet’s.
Five large windows frame the clinic’s frontage, with accent lights, oak-coloured flooring, and natural white paint colours that work together to provide a warm, cosy feeling when you enter. The product area features high-end pet accessories displayed on custom-built shelves.
The separate consult rooms for dogs and cats have been appropriately named – Beethoven for dogs and Ferguson for cats.
The murals on the wall in the foyer of the clinic and in the consult rooms (created by Superhero Company) incorporate the one gold line featured in the logo and signage.
The continuous line from the logo and signage is a feature connecting the dogs and cats in the consult rooms and the green florals in the foyer, which is more of an interest board.
Remona was very pleased with the finished product:
“Elite has made the fit-out process smooth. They were easy to communicate with and I would recommend them to any other person interested in taking on this task.
They are knowledgeable and reasonable people who can assist you to overcome any obstacles throughout the fit-out process. If I could go back in time I would 100% use them again”
