At DentalVet we provide a modern, scientific, evidence-based approach to equine dentistry, combining the most up-to-date techniques, procedures and materials from both the human and veterinary dental fields.
Perth’s only dedicated equine veterinary dentistry clinic provides routine, advanced and referral equine dentistry services to horses in Western Australia.
The practice was started in 2010 by Dr Kirsten Jackson with the aim of providing world-class, evidence-based equine dental care in Western Australia. After completing her ANZCVS membership examinations in Equine Dentistry in 2012, she completed numerous courses internationally on advanced periodontal disease treatments, dental restorations (‘fillings’) and endodontics (‘root canals’) and has been performing these procedures since 2016. She also received her PhD in 2021 for her research on equine peripheral caries.
At Dental Vet you can be confident that your horse, or your client’s horse is in qualified, experienced hands.
The American Dental Association defines dentistry as “the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and/or treatment (non-surgical, surgical or related procedures) of diseases, disorders and/or conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and/or the adjacent and associated structures and their impact on the… body”.
This statement is equally as relevant to equine dentistry as it is to human dentistry and the idea that dentistry is just ‘rasping off some sharp points’ is very outdated and misinformed. Many of the most painful conditions affecting our equine patients such as dead, infected, abscessed teeth, or many cases of periodontal disease can only be seen, they can’t be felt. This means a thorough oral examination using a powerful light, a mirror or endoscope, a full mouth speculum and a relaxed patient is essential.
We can provide advanced dental procedures and treatments, as well as routine dental maintenance, which always includes a thorough oral examination as standard practice. We are trained and experienced in providing dental restorations (‘fillings’), endodontics (‘root canal’ treatments), and treatments for advanced periodontal disease and offer referral services to other veterinarians and dental technicians.
Our Services:

Our Facilities
In May 2017, DentalVet completed Western Australia’s first and only, purpose-built Veterinary Equine Dentistry clinic. We are one of the few practices worldwide with the training, equipment and horse dentistry facilities to be able to provide more advanced dental procedures such as restorations (‘fillings’) and endodontics (‘root canal’ treatments).
Mobile Services
If your horse cannot visit the clinic, DentalVet also provides a mobile service and we can come to you. We have a portable crush with its own water and power supply, which allows us to conduct comprehensive dental examinations and treatments at your property. We also have portable digital radiology and endoscopy so we can provide these services when mobile as well as at the clinic.
