As a veterinarian, critically ill and emergency patients are amongst the most challenging to work with. Having the skill and confidence to treat these cases effectively is a must! But with so many education options and courses out there, it can be hard to know which emergency program to choose.
We’re slightly (okay, very!) biased, but with good reason. Improve Veterinary Education is the leading provider globally of education for the veterinary community. From the UK to the USA and Portugal to Mexico, our programs are accredited and recognised all over the world.
Our Australian-developed emergency programs have been created by renowned ECC Specialists working in emergency and critical care. They provide you with up-to-date clinical guidelines and industry-leading resources.
Sold? Okay, great! Let’s move on.
Think only emergency vets need to study emergency? Think again! We often hear from GP vets who find the most stressful part of their jobs is dealing with emergency cases that they feel underprepared to handle in their clinic. Completing relevant training can not only help your confidence in managing these cases but also help you to provide the best possible care for ALL your patients.
With that in mind, let’s explore the two Improve Veterinary Education emergency programs to find which one is best suited to you and your current career stage.
This 100% online course covers emergency topics relevant and applicable to the everyday clinical setting – it’s your ‘need to know’ guide for emergency practice!
The 15 modules include:
• how to use diagnostic tools and interpret diagnostic findings
• recommendations for workup
• key emergency presentations, from ophthalmology to neurology
You will also get an exclusive invitation to four global ECC seminars with world-renowned speakers on essential emergency and critical care topics. All in all, this program is designed to leave you feeling confident and in control of any emergency case that comes through the door.
So, who exactly is it for? It’s a foundation-level emergency program targeted towards:
• GP vets who want to improve their confidence when dealing with emergency cases
• Vets thinking of transitioning (or recently transitioned) to emergency practice
• Any vet who is seeing regular out of hours and urgent care cases, who wants to rapidly upskill

“Being a recent graduate I sometimes found myself being intimidated when it came to dealing with emergency cases. That all changed when I came across the Accelerated Emergency Program. By the end of the program I was able to collectively organise all my knowledge in such a way which allowed me to be more confident in managing any kind of emergency that would come through the door.”
Elli Michaelidou MRCVS, Accelerated Emergency Program Graduate
This program is designed to help you consolidate your knowledge in emergency and critical care, get you ready to sit your ANZCVS Membership exams, and start you on the path of ECC expertise. Designed by ECC Specialists, this course provides a structured, logical approach to a complex and evolving subject. All broad areas of veterinary emergency and critical care are covered, with learning objectives based on the ANZCVS* ECC Membership Guidelines.
Unlike our AEP course, which is 100% online, this blended learning program includes a combination of live, online and face-to-face resources.
This more advanced program is recommended for vets with prior introductory studies in emergency care (like our AEP program *wink wink*). Anyone wanting to enrol must be currently working in clinical practice and ideally seeing an urgent care caseload.
If you’re an emergency vet looking for industry-recognised and accredited training in ECC, this is the program for you. To learn more or register your interest, click here.
