If you work in a veterinary practice or in the pet industry or in a business that supplies goods or services to the industry and you have something to say - why not become a 'Guest Blogger'?
Is there a way to get your time back without sacrificing your veterinary business?
Have you ever felt like you’re the superhero of your practice?
No job is too big or too small for you. You can wear many hats and do a variety of jobs all in the same day.
But the question is… do you have to?
The answer is usually no. You don’t have to do everything yourself.
Trust me, if you want to have a practice that runs seamlessly and makes a high profit regardless of whether or not you’re there, this is how you get your time back without sacrificing your business.
So, why don’t we delegate more?
I can think of three reasons:
We don’t believe we have the time to train someone else.
Past experience taught us that no one else can do it.
We simply do it better and faster ourselves.
Does any of this sound familiar to you?
In the beginning…
Of course, when we first start off, we may find ourselves wearing many hats. But as our business grows, we need to start delegating some of these tasks to someone else.
When we do, something great happens…
We have more time to work on the business and less time overloaded with menial work.
Delegating also means that we take the opportunity to help our team members develop and grow. Developing and taking the time for growth lets team members know that we trust and value them. And we’re more likely to keep our good people when we take an interest in their development.
So, where do you start? Create a list!
Before you start delegating, create a list of tasks that you want to delegate. Make sure that you get together with your team to get their input, too.
When you’ve narrowed down your list, it’s time for the following steps:
Training and input
Create a timeline
Handoff tasks
Reward the team
Remember to start small
You may have to start small at first, and that’s okay. Try handing off a couple of tasks at a time and appoint a team lead to monitor progress and take completed tasks.
It’s a learning process for everyone but the entire team can reap the benefits.
